Office of the Treasurer
The Illinois State Treasurer’s Office
The Illinois State Treasurer’s Office helps people, communities, and businesses build a stronger financial future. As the state’s Chief Investment and Banking Officer, Treasurer Michael Frerichs manages approximately $60 billion to support economic opportunity, protect consumers, and strengthen communities across Illinois.
The office invests in programs that make a real difference in people’s lives. These efforts help families save for college and trade school, support workers planning for retirement, improve payment services for local governments, and expand access to affordable capital for farmers, small businesses, and qualified borrowers. The office also leads the state’s largest consumer protection initiative, I-Cash, which has returned a record-breaking $2.4 billion in missing money since Treasurer Frerichs took office.
